AN 86-year-old fended off a mugger in Altrincham – by beating them over the head with bacon.
At around 1.45pm on Monday July 18, the elderly woman withdrew a large quantity of money from a cash machine at Lloyds Bank on Stamford New Road before heading into Iceland in Altrincham.
Whilst shopping, a would-be mugger grabbed the woman’s trolley and demanded she handed over her pension.
The pensioner did not back down though and repeatedly beat the woman over the head with a packet of bacon.
Defeated, the woman fled the supermarket emptyhanded.
PC Tomlinson from Altrincham Police Station said: “The victim is safe and well but obviously very shook up about this incident."
If anyone has any information call the police on 101.
