A SLIP road on the M60 had to be shut earlier today after a car transporter lorry caught fire on the motorway.

Emergency crews were called to a reports of a vehicle alight near to junction 10 on the anticlockwise carriageway at around 11.30am on Friday June 17.

Passing drivers concerned about the hard shoulder blaze made numerous calls to fire and police.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used hose reels to bring the fire under control and were on the scene for around half an hour.

The fire closed one lane of the M60 and the entry slip road at junction 10 was also shut, affecting drivers heading from Trafford Park.

All lanes have now reopened and traffic has returned to normal.
