Urmston

CHILDREN from Urmston Junior and Infants and English Martyrs' Primary School, with the help of sixth form students from Urmston Grammar, will make a deep-rooted change to the school grounds as they planted fruit trees during National Tree Week. (November 28 to December 6).

The trees were planted in the primary school garden in the grounds of Urmston Grammar School, which is an area set aside for primary schools to use.

The primary school garden area has been equipped with planters and a rain water harvest system by the Trafford Park company Cargill.

Bernadette Motiwala from Urmston Grammar, who leads the group, said "We can't wait for the children to come back next year and see the trees grow in spring and harvest the fruit in autumn.

"By planting the trees we hope that pupils will develop a strong sense of importance of trees and orchards to wildlife, biodiversity and people, which they will carry with them for the rest of their lives."

The children's efforts were supported by a grant from the Tree Council.
