ALTRINCHAM-based construction firm FK Group has proved it punches above its weight with the launch of two initiatives aimed at promoting health, fitness, and opportunities for women and young people.

Working with charity the Sport Community, FK is funding a ‘Boxfit’ programme for women on the Broomwood estate, allowing them to train for free at boxing club Timperley ABC. The scheme has proved a huge success with classes oversubscribed.

FK is also helping young boxers progress towards elite level by funding amateur boxing shows, including an international showpiece event on Friday, November 27, at the Cresta Court Hotel.

Some of Ireland’s best young fighters are making the journey to take on the best from Timperley ABC and other clubs from across Greater Manchester.

Speaking about the initiatives, FK director Sean Keenan said: “We have our headquarters in Altrincham and we wanted to put something back into the community. We all love sport and it’s fantastic to see our programmes making such a difference.

“We want local people to have more opportunities to enjoy sport and we’re also excited by some of the fantastic young boxing talent we have in the town.”

FK’s support for boxing has helped ensure Timperley ABC continues its outstanding work in providing an outlet for people to train and compete in a safe environment.

Head coach Mark Davidson said: “We have some extremely talented young boxers but we need help to make sure we can provide the opportunities the kids need. It’s vital we put on amateur shows to make sure our boxers compete – that’s the only way they can stay motivated and follow their dreams to compete on the world stage.”
