ALSTOM and DF Energy, consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station, have donated a total of £17,000 to Broadoak School in Partington.

Alstom and DF jointly donated £10,000 and Alstom Power added a further £7,000 to the fund.

The surprise presentation took place during the Golden Jubilee celebrations at Broadoak.

The funding will go towards refurbishing the vocation centre at the school to enable students to study everything from motor vehicle engineering to hair and beauty.

Lee McConaghie, headteacher at Broadoak said: “Thanks to the generosity of the partners, the work on the vocation centre can begin very shortly. With the money we will be able to refurbish the working areas and purchase much needed additional equipment including a couple of training vehicles for motor vehicle engineering."

Rainer Lueoend, from Alstom, said: “Alstom is a company with a history, rich in engineering. We felt it was fitting to donate this money to the school for the refurbishment of the vocational centre, particularly given the real opportunity for young people to study engineering.”
