RESIDENTS in Altrincham suffering from fly tipping problems say they are at their wits end in getting Trafford Council to deal with it.

The residents of Plover Drive, Broadheath, have been subjected to regular dumping along grass verges on the nearby Dairyhouse Lane, an issue they claim the local authority is failing to deal with.

After a mattress and base was dumped six weeks ago, Joanne Higson, says she was given assurances by Trafford Council that it would be removed on several occasions.

She said: "Since the latest rubbish was dumped I and many of the residents have been in touch and been told it would be removed; yet it is still here."

Mrs Higson said the verges had become a regular dumping ground for bags of rubbish and even a caravan which was abandoned there.

"My husband and other residents have cleared some of the rubbish but nothing seems to be done to alleviate the long term dumping issues which include old furniture.

"The recycling centre is literally up the road and those doing the dumping need to take stock of their behaviour.

"Trafford should be ashamed to to have no action taken after so long."

A Trafford Council spokemsan said: "Trafford Council take illegal dumping very seriously and this year we have responded to 16 complaints about fly-tipping on this verge.

"Unfortunately it is not uncommon to find rubbish on the verge often shortly after it has been cleaned. Last year, the council acted upon 1,100 incidents of illegal dumping throughout the borough.

"We would ask residents to be alert and report any vehicles seen dumping rubbish in the area. This can be done anonymously on 912 2000.

"This will help us address the problem through enforcement measures. We can confirm  the dumped mattress has now been removed.

"The Council will also contact Greater Manchester Waste Authority with a view to improving local signage to the nearby Household Waste and Recycling Centre."
