TORIES in Trafford say that a £150,000 package of measures will make the borough even cleaner and greener.

It follows a recent agreement by Trafford Council members, that the additional monies should be provided to improve play areas in parks and make available a smaller collection vehicle to empty litter bins quickly when full.

In addition, steps would be taken to replace a number of open top litter bins in town centres with boxed trap bins to help prevent the dumping of household rubbish.

Notice boards would also be made available for parks to share public information and the targeted provision of larger, shared bins in the M16 post code area, will be trialled.

The popular and effective #BeResponsible education campaign, launched earlier this year to tackle dog fouling will be extended to cover fly tipping and littering.

Executive councillor for environment and operations, John Reilly said: "This targeted set of measures will build on the efforts already taken to keep Trafford clean and green.

"We intend to continue working in partnership with our communities to change behaviour and stop littering and fly tipping occurring in the first place.

"We believe that through these measures the council will continue to play its part in securing a clean environment for everybody in Trafford."
