A BODY has been found by officers searching for missing international student, Souvik Pal.


Specialist officers made the discovery in the Bridgewater Canal at 2pm today, January 22.


Formal identification is not due to take place until the body has been safely recovered.


A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The family of Souvik Pal has been informed of this development and specially trained officers are in regular contact with them.


“DCI Colin Larkin continues to appeal for anyone with information relating to Souvik Pal's disappearance to contact police.”


The 18-year-old Manchester Metropolitan University student has not been seen since he attended a New Year’s Eve event at the Warehouse Project, Trafford Wharf Road.
 

His father, Sanatanu Pal, has been in Manchester appealing for information as to his son’s whereabouts since January 7.
