Jessica Hynes’ sitcom Up The Women has been cancelled by the BBC.
The comedian’s series about women’s suffrage had run for two series with the broadcaster, but will not be getting a third run, it has been confirmed.
A BBC spokesman told the Radio Times: “After two great series, sadly there won’t be any more Up The Women on BBC Two as the channel looks to bring new comedy shows through.
“Huge thanks to the incredibly talented Jessica Hynes, and all involved in the making of the show.”
Jessica, who wrote the show, also starred as Margaret, the leader of Banbury Intricate Craft Circle Politely Requests Women’s Suffrage group.
Rebecca Front played her nemesis, a society wife opposed to women getting the vote, and Vicki Pepperdine, Adrian Scarborough and Judy Parfitt also starred.
The series debuted on BBC Four and moved to BBC Two for its second series, and was the last sitcom to be filmed in front of a live studio audience at BBC’s Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush.
