Let the cobbles see the comedian – Take Me Out star Paddy McGuinness has signed up for a guest role in Coronation Street.
The dating show host is set to play a wilderness survival enthusiast in the ITV soap, who the Tinker and Dobbs families meet on a camping holiday.
Paddy, 41, will be giving Bear Grylls a run for his money as Dougie Ryan for six episodes over the summer.
Dougie is on holiday with his teenage daughter Caitlin, who befriends Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) and it isn’t long before the amateur adventurer is putting Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment), Beth Tinker (Lisa George), Craig, Chesney Brown (Sam Aston), Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) through their paces.
Paddy, whose Phoenix Nights co-star Peter Kay appeared in one episode as Shelley Unwin’s date Eric Gartside in 2004, said: “Being asked to appear in Coronation Street was a very special moment for me. I remember Peter telling me how much he enjoyed his guest spot on the show and I can’t wait to get started.
“An iconic and much loved show not just in the UK but around the world. The character I’ll be playing is very funny and I’m sure the Corrie fans will love him.”
The soap’s executive producer Stuart Blackburn said: “It’s an absolute delight to be working with Paddy who is a talented actor with a flair for comedy that will ensure he fits right in with the Corrie cast.”
Paddy will start filming his episodes next month, which are due to air on ITV in August.
