ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 36-37 NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAYS AND SLIP ROADS) [TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2019

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the District of Eden in the County of Cumbria, to enable resurfacing works, and other general maintenance works; to be carried out in safety. The Order will:

a) impose a 50 mph speed limit on all traffic on the following sections of the M6 Motorway:



i. the southbound carriageway, from a point 240 metres north of Cowperthwaite Bridge, to a point 1,020 metres south of Brunthwaite Bridge;



ii. the northbound carriageway, from a point 770 metres north of Sillfield Bridge, to a point 585 metres south of Powson Bridge.



b) ban all traffic from the southbound carriageway of the M6 Motorway, from the first point where the Junction 37 entry slip road joins the carriageway, to the last point where the Junction 36 exit slip road leaves the carriageway.



c) ban all traffic from the following slip roads:



i. the southbound exit slip road to Killington Services;



ii. the southbound entry slip road from Killington Services;



iii. the southbound entry slip road at Junction 37.



d) allow the hard shoulders adjacent to the following sections of the M6 Motorway to be used as running lanes:



1. the southbound carriageway, from a point 163 metres north of Sedbergh Road Bridge, to a point 510 metres north of Brunthwaite Bridge;



the southbound carriageway, from a point 163 metres north of Sedbergh Road Bridge, to a point 510 metres north of Brunthwaite Bridge;

ii. the northbound carriageway, from a point 740 metres south of Brunthwaite Bridge, to a point 930 metres south of Sedbergh Road Bridge.

e) ban all traffic in lane 3 on the northbound carriageway of the M6 Motorway, from a point 1,020 metres south of Brunthwaite Bridge, to a point 585 metres south of Powson Bridge. During the closure of the section of this southbound carriageway, the southbound traffic will be directed to cross over onto the northbound carriageway where a contraflow system will be in place.



f) impose a width restriction of 1.95 metres (6 feet 6 inches) in lane



2, as indicated by traffic signs, on the section of the M6 Motorway described at a) ii above.



Restriction d) i. is expected to take place between 06:00 hours and 22:00 hours, during a period starting on Monday 15 July 2019 and ending on Monday 29 July 2019.

Restriction d) ii. is expected to take place overnight between 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours, during a period starting on Monday 8 July 2019 and ending on Saturday 13 July 2019 and starting again during the same times, during a period starting on Thursday 15 August 2019 and ending on Thursday 22 August 2019.

Prohibition b) and c) iii is expected to take place overnight between 22:00 hours and 06:00 hours, during a period starting on Saturday 13 July 2019 and ending on Saturday 10 August 2019. Prohibition c) is expected to take place overnight between 22:00 hours and 06:00 hours, during a period starting on Saturday 13 July 2019 and ending on Thursday 22 August 2019.

Restrictions a) and f) and prohibition e) are expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 22:00 hours on Monday 1 July 2019 and ending at 06:00 hours on Saturday 10 August 2019. However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights or days, or during subsequent continuous periods, until completed.

Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M6 Motorway and local roads will be well signed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions and restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
