We’re putting climate change firmly on the council’s agenda by setting up a select committee to focus our work and raise awareness. The new committee will ensure the council considers the impact of our services and policies on climate change and the local environment. It will also be raising awareness of what local people can do.

One of the ways we can minimise impact of services is through co-ordination and we’ve had several appreciative comments from people about the way we recently managed a complex series of works on the busy A56 over two weeks. Our street lighting team were planning to replace seven columns along the stretch of road from the traffic lights at Charcoal Road to the Lymm roundabout. They decided to do other lighting repairs at the same time as well as maintenance work on grass verges and hedges, gulley cleaning and sign repairs and also worked with United Utilities and Greater Manchester Police to get the project completed in the most efficient way and save on the cost of traffic management.

Young people were finding out about careers in childcare in a fun and interactive way at a number of information and advice events, with theatre performances at local schools, the college and Sale Waterside Arts Centre. Actors performed sketches showing life through the eyes of children and childcare workers to encourage people to think about how working in childcare can be a rewarding career.
