Osh and Arslanbob

We checked into Osh Guesthouse at 7am. After some much-needed fodder at a nearby Chaykhana (tea-house), including Shaslyk, the name for the ever-present meat skewers here, and the first on-tap pint of lager I'd seen since departing blighty, we took in the sights.

The Irkeshtam Pass

Firstly, our driver informed us that it would take 25 hours from the border for him to get to Osh, due to the terrain and slowness of his vehicle.

Kashgar

We had six days to relax and regroup in Kashgar. Site-wise we saw the Id Kah Mosque, haggled at the Sunday Bazaar and marvelled at the animal market.

Khotan and Yarkand

Having switched at Aksu our sleeper bus bridged the gap between the Northern and Southern Silk Roads by crossing the Taklamakan desert bypassing the Lop Nur salt marshes.

Urumqi, Korla and Kuche

We returned to Urumqi and immersed ourselves into Uyghur culture.
