Being a new member of a committee isn’t always going to be easy but as soon as I joined the youth cabinet my confident streak was already showing and so I decided to go further and volunteer for the “diverse communities forum” which I have been attending for 2 months now and haven’t held back and made sure my opinion was heard; one step further to stronger community cohesion!

As one of the younger attendees of the Diverse Communities Forum I have found it amazing to participate in such an experience where people of different backgrounds, committees and ages come together to form one forum. There were people attending from the: disability, religion, TBL and older people’s committee; it’s always nice to see the social side of a forum and speaking to different “groups” of people!

Gaining the input of us as young adults; to have our say in what goes on is an achievement and a half! The opinions of different groups of people to form our decision on many areas such as “the health& well being strategy” “the census” and many other topics.

The best project I’ve participated in of the forum up to this date had to be prioritising health & wellbeing areas and with so much about young people in the priorities I think we had a crucial role to play and feedback to the youth cabinet, though I can probably predict a lot of people would be bored by just reading and judging by what they see it was a great experience and I really enjoyed it!

The fact it isn’t every fortnight allows us to think of new discussion topics, ideas and arguments to put forward ideas to last for 2 hours! Also the coffees are always a plus; me and Sarah were the youngest members of the group and so we believe it is a good idea to create a link between our whole community and the youth cabinet to have our say in even more!

Thanks a lot, Naadhirah
