Will Jedi be the next in 'Thought for the Week'?

I’M not really religious. If the truth be told, I’m a bit of an agnostic Catholic really, but I do enjoy reading Messenger’s ‘Thought for the week’ column.

Firstly, can I say bravo to Messenger for giving space to religious groups to put forward their messages and secondly, well done to the authors of these pieces for, by and large, providing sensible, entertaining reading.

But last week’s piece made me gasp in amazement.

Is it really possible to equate yoga with religion?

Frankly, I don’t think so.

I realise the column was examing how yoga in this country had moved away from the spiritual to become merely a health and fitness regimen and how it was not possible to successfully separate the two.

But I was staggered that it was included in such a column, especially as the author also seems to have a commercial interest in yoga. Is this a change of policy, are we to see some ‘way out’ religions making an appearance?

This made me think what we are likely to be treated to next, an article by George Lucas on how to find enlightenment by following the way of the Jedi, I wonder.

I really hope so.
