Trafford Council should embrace Olympic sporting legacy

I HAVE been thoroughly enjoying the Olympic Games, as I’m sure have many of your readers.

I enjoyed taking my young son to his first proper football match to watch Brazil at Old Trafford. But now I look out of my window at my local park, and I see typical park tennis courts with sagging nets, weeds growing around the edges, and broken fencing to make sure you lose the tennis balls in the undergrowth.

I see a basketball court with broken nets and broken boards behind. And I see what is supposed to be a five-a-side football pitch which is so pot-holed and rutted that you would be guaranteed to twist or break an ankle if you were daft enough to use it. Fortunately nobody does.

So come on Trafford Council, you spent money on all the peripheral stuff – the civic appearances, the torch, the photo opportunities.

Now could you spend just a little money on the important stuff and make the sporting facilities in our parks both safe and useable?

I can’t think of a better Olympic legacy.
