More jobs but at what cost?

RE GT Flood’s letter about the dismay at the Biomass Plant being rejected locally astounded me in many ways.

I lived there for 20 years before I moved away and I have a parent who still lives there with COPD where more air pollution would be a definite no-no.

They have had enough building and changes in the area and I think personally it’s about time ‘new builds’ need to be considered elsewhere.

Barton isn’t the only land available, considering that this land had been proposed for the build was meant to be for housing – what an about-turn that was, unless the powers that be just threw that in to allay people’s fear before they dropped the bombshell that it wasn’t housing at all and was never intended to be.

I wonder if he/she and others like them would be so welcoming if it was being planned for in or around Timperley or any other area in all honesty, apart from Barton.

Or is it the usual it’s ok as it’s not in my back garden syndrome? If it wouldn’t affect them at all, is it okay for them to pursue and they cannot understand why others do not want it?

They note there is a downside and there will be air pollution – this is one of the many reasons people are opposed and a plus point would be less landfill which falls under the recycling process which is the responsibility of us all.

Yes it will create employment but at what cost? Yes we need jobs but more checks should be done and all the facts and figures and the plus and down sides should be available for all to see not just what they want us to see.

I live in Stretford now and still don’t think it should be built at all, without all the facts on what it will generate and what issues it will cause and what the downsides of that will be.
