Why the council and the Breathe Clean Air Group oppose BREP

RE; ‘BREP support’ (Messenger, July 19) REPRESENTING the views of the majority of Trafford on this issue, we would like to disagree with what GT Flood, of Timperley, has stated.

It has been made very clear by the Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council and the campaign group, Breathe Clean Air Group, that this proposal would pose a detrimental impact upon the regeneration of the borough of Trafford and could potentially pose a significant health risk.

Trafford Council's planning committee made this very clear back in November 2011 when they refused planning permission for the biomass plant and this reflected the views of a number of Trafford residents.

We totally agree that methods of renewable energy are required and should be utilised to meet the demands for electricity throughout the country. Technologies such as solar energy and hydroelectric power are two methods which provide great benefits and would be a good solution for energy production in Trafford.

Let's hope that the view of Trafford Locals are not overturned by Government ministers and that local democracy continues to strive when determining local controversial issues.
