  • "Sale has definitely slided downhill since I was younger, but the same happened to Altrincham immediately after the Trafford Center opened in the late 90's (and it *was* a factor in Sale, too) and since then, enough money was poured into Altrincham town centre to revitalise it and make it a reasonable alternative to the crowds of the city centre and the arduous, gargantuan , tasteless horror of the Trafford Centre. Sale needs stores to bring shoppers over, brands and variety that will draw local people back to the area for their shopping requirements rather than have them make long journeys elsewhere."

What has become of town centre?

OH dear, what a sad place Sale has become.

On Saturday I walked into the precinct and there are now more empty units than there are full ones. Like all town centres there are more and more charity and pound shops.

Walking past what was the Waggon and Horses pub there is an overgrown site, the majority of shops are closed and look vandalised.

Occasionally we hear councillors say that they are going to do something with this area.

Well here’s a suggestion – take out a compulsory purchase order, knock the lot down and clear the site.

Until something is ready to be built on it make it into a park – at least the gateway to Manchester would be tidy.

The town is going to deteriorate until there are no visitors.

Please don't blame the Trafford Centre, you knew it was coming and buried your heads in the sand.
