Tatton Park strife

THERE is no doubt that all those who visit Tatton Park for peace and tranquillity in wide open spaces, whether from the Knutsford area or further afield, will be affected if Cheshire East Council gets the go ahead to its proposed plans for BeWILDerwood, an outdoor theme park.

The substantial increase in traffic both withiin and outside the park is a major implication of this proposal.

Road congestion around Tatton Park during event days (and when an incident occurs on the M6) already causes long tailbacks effectively gridlocking Knutsford, so the proposed increase in vehicles on a daily basis, will severely worsen the traffic crisis. It is proposed that land within Tatton Park be used to make way for car parking.

The predicted 300,000 visitors will enter via both the Rostherne and Knutsford entrances which indicates that there will be serious safety issues for all walkers, cyclists, pushchair and wheelchair users already forced on to the grass verges to avoid vehicles (soon to include many more coaches) in both directions.

If BeWILDerwood is approved, over 15 hectares of rare and ancient Cheshire woodland within protected green belt land will be affected, along with protected bird, mammal and insect species, their habitats, feeding patterns and flight paths.
