There must be a humane method

I AM writing in response to the letter ‘Do something about this suffering’ regarding pigeons being deliberately trapped in wire at Sale tram station.

I am appalled that Metrolink and Trafford Council are ‘not very interested’ when the lady complained.

It’s a disgrace that trapping birds in this callous manner is acceptable to them.

We realise they are pests but they should not have to suffer in that way, and surely there must be a more humane way to get rid of these birds rather than them suffering a long and painful death?

I am thankful I didn’t see the distressed trapped bird or the four dead birds hanging on the wire, or I would have been crying.

Hi - I wrote in the previous week after the first letter was printed. I too was horrified ad contacted the RSPCA, who said that Metrolink are obliged to check the wires daily and said if we saw any trapped birds we should call the RSPCA hotline on 0300 1234 999. They took it really seriously. I also wrote to GMPTE and complained. Since then my friend has texted me from the metro stop to say that someone has been and cleared up the wiring! So let's all put the numers in our phones and keep it up. Cat

How about we all put more effort into looking after the needs of our own species rather than those of feathered rats.

Most reputable pest control companies will shoot them. Don't wast the RSPCA's time with these vermin, that is not what I make my donations for.
