Horrified at the plight of pigeons

I WAS so horrified to read in last week’s letters about pigeons being left to die in wire netting at Sale Metrolink station that I contacted the RSPCA. Their advice was that, although Metrolink/GMPTE are entitled to put up the wire as they own the location, they are also obliged to check it daily to minimise suffering and if this is not adhered to we can make a complaint to the RSPCA.

They have asked anyone witnessing trapped birds to call their hotline on 0300 1234 999. I am writing to Metrolink and GMPTE to let them know this. Of course, we are all aware that pigeons are a pest, but quite apart from the suffering this causes, surely leaving dead ones to rot above commuters’ heads is just as much of a health hazard.
