Red card for hospital football

I HAD cause to visit the A & E Department of Trafford General Hospital on the evening of March 27 and was astounded to find a football match (with accompanying sound) being shown in the waiting room. I asked if there was anywhere else to sit (waiting time approximately three hours) and was told there wasn’t, and that if the TV was turned off people would complain.
Due to this country’s obsession with the game, many of our pubs have now been taken over by the TV screening of football matches. Of course, we can choose to avoid pubs showing football, but we have no option where hospitals are concerned if we are ill.
Obviously the welfare of sick people now comes second to football. What a sorry state of affairs.

How selfish are you? You were at a hospital for a reason. Im sure it wasnt to watch television. You were there waiting for three hours and the game was on for half of that time? Could you have gone outside? Gone for a little walk? If you were in a wheelchair,could you have wheeled yourself out? The majority of people in this country like watching football, it is our national sport. They even... forgive me for telling you .... play this game in school. The fact that a tv is there in the first place to hopefully take people's mind off things whilst waiting is fantastic. May I suggest you never go again. What a sad individual you are...I've never heard such a pathetic complaint made against somewhere that is needed by all of us at some times in our lives I will thank all the staff on your behalf for being there ready for your visit and to help/talk to you if it was needed. If you have ever been to a football match you may have noticed there isn't a running commentary!! So why have the sound up? Others can watch the match without imposing on those who care not to.
I uaually enjoy your comments mms69 but found this one vindictive. Where does it say that she didn't appreciate the service provided by the staff? Her point being she was ill and didn't appreciate the needless commentary, in this instance it,s you that is "a sad individual". Now get back to what you do best and make considered and interesting comments.

Tha lady concerned raised a complaint which I found petty.
If you are waiting in a+e, I would imagine anything that could take your mind off the pain or discomfort that people are in would be a good thing.
You will never please everyone.
I would imagine, some people would prefer peace and quiet whilst they deal with their own situation, hence the reason for my statement about possibly going outside.

I found this remark from this lady to be quite selfish.
Her complaint wasnt specific about the commentary , it was the fact that a game of football was on in the first place.

You are correct in this matter... she did not mention this.
But her not mentioning her appreciation of the staff/service in this letter spoke volumes.

Tho maybe the volume could be turned down more so it isnt intrusive as although it may be our national sport, not everyone is into sport and there's nothing like piercing football noise and commentary to make you feel worse when sick.
I can imagine if a patient was sitting in A&E feeling sick and rough, loud football would make them feel a lot worse.
Same with any programme, everything in moderation.

You dont know how sick she was or what the problem was and patients in A&E need to stay there it is Accident & Emergency not another building where people can leave if they wish.
