  • "Hi - I wrote in the following week saying that I had contacted the RSPCA and they said that Metrolink were obliged to check the wire every day and remove any trapped birds. So I have written to GMPTE, and last week my friend texted to say that the area had been cleaned up! Good for you for starting this - RSPCA's hotline is 0300 1234 999 and they said anyone seeing a trapped bird should call them. Cat"

Do something to stop this suffering

I HAVE just got off at Sale tram station travelling from Altrincham.

I walked round to catch the lift as I had a pram with me.

There was a few pigeons around by the lift that my little boy was excited to see.

He is three-years-old so doesn’t really know the difference between birds yet.

One of the pigeons flew up and got caught in the wire that is obviously put up to catch pigeons or stop them from nesting.

This pigeon was completely tangled and was flapping like crazy to try and escape.

It was then that I noticed four other trapped dead birds that had clearly suffered the same fate.

My little boy was distraught and couldn't understand why I was leaving the bird trapped and distressed. I had a crying three year old all the way home.

Surely there is a more humane way to get rid of these birds?

I do understand that they are pests but I don't wish to see them getting hurt or killed and I especially don't want my little boy to witness that.

I called Metrolink and Trafford Council but neither were very interested.

I think it is disgusting to have dead birds hanging above you while you wait for the lift and maybe I’m a little too sensitive but I don’t like to see any animals suffer a long painful death like that.

Had it not have been too high for me to reach I would of cut that bird down myself. I do hope Metrolink sort out this problem. I will be checking on a daily basis.
