Our estate needs proper screening

ON behalf of all the residents living on the Nurseries Estate, I would like to express our sincere thanks to the Messenger for its excellent coverage of our campaign relating to the impact of the Metrolink Works. We are most grateful.

I should also like to respond to statements made by Philip Purdy, Metrolink director in the article.

Although Transport for Greater Manchester have been out on site to listen to our concerns, they have not acceded in any way to our key wishes.

These are to either delay the descent of the incline carrying the line so as to provide a bigger environmental screen, or to construct a low earth hill in front of the lowest section of the incline which, when planted with mature trees, will provide something that is aesthetically pleasing.

A higher fence and holly bushes in four years time is a poor solution.

They have taken a piece of our estate environment away and should replace it with proper screening and mature vegetation.
