  • "I wouldn't say that the rest of the borough is neglected. The provision of public services comes from tax payers' money. I'd rather the council spent less than put up the council tax.

You should give living under Manchester Council a try. Their council tax bills are shocking because they enjoy spending on those who vote for them and contribute the least. (kind of sums up Labour really)"

Olympic vision

IN response to the letter of B Jones in relation to the Olympics.

There are a number of improvements to the highways being carried out in the vicinity of the Old Trafford football stadium prior to the Olympic events being held there in July and August.

These are being funded partly by the Olympic Delivery Authority and partly by the council and many of these improvements were already within future council programmes but they have been accelerated to benefit spectators visiting the stadium this summer.

Specifically the improvements include dropped kerbs and resurfaced footways to improve pedestrian accessibility and mobility in the area. They will benefit users for years to come.

The local economy is expected to be boosted to the tune of some £24m when the Olympics arrive in Trafford. It is our aim to ensure that the experience people feel when visiting and staying in Trafford is of a truly gold standard.
