IT is with great sadness but also fond memories of the ‘gassy’ as my dear granddad Richard Parfitt who came from a little village called Stow Bedon in Norfolk called it.
He came to Partington in 1943 having met my gran Megan Parfitt (nee Stubbs) who worked in the canteen there. My dad worked there too when he was a young man.
My dad and his brothers and sisters all used to attend the gas works parties. I wondered if anyone has any old photos they could share? My grandad worked there for more than 50 years. I wondered if I could be involved in pressing the button at the demolition? It’s the end of an era.
