I LEAVE my house by 7.30am and don’t return until 4.30pm. On bin collection day, my bin is obviously out longer than this, without an option.

Perhaps what we need is for the council to provide a service which matches modern day life, so maybe the bins should be emptied during evenings and weekends, rather than between 9am and 5pm, Mon to Fri?

Even more useful – a ‘mini-referendum’ of local residents to determine the optimum times for their bins to be emptied?

Rather than a referendum, can't you just ask one your neighbours to drag it in for you? Its how things work in my close.
