Isn’t it time Trafford Council forced the owner of the Essoldo Cinema at Stretford to sell the building?
Do they have the powers to do so?
This empty cinema is being allowed to rot away.
If there is no intention of re-opening the cinema, which there clearly isn’t after many years, then I think the owner should be forced to hand it over to somebody who will restore and re-open the building.
It could be run on the same basis as The Plaza Cinema at Stockport, with vintage films, shows and concerts, providing a much needed facility for the citizens of Stretford.

As of April this year, they claim to have re pained the auditorium although nodody can get access to verify this, or the poitn of this. I dont think it will ever be a cinema again, it's impractical and I'm sure the owner doesnt have the capital to do this - who does these days? The owner has stated that they welcome suggestions as to usage, but won't give out contact details of how to suggest this!
It has been a year of progress I think but I share these concerns. You can find out all about the building and the latest news by visiting www.longfordcinema.c
