Tuba-playing neighbour is making my life hell

WHERE I live in Hale some of us are having to put up with the most awful noise which has been going on for several months now.

It occurs seven days a week, and because of this racket we cannot sit in our gardens in peace, we have to have the windows closed if we are in the house after being driven inside to escape the noise.

The noise is not coming from the airport, or the local children, nor is it the constant drone of machinery, or traffic. No, it is an adult learning to play what appears to be a tuba, it goes on and on we wouldn't mind so much if he could carry a tune but he can't.

Despite my complaints to the enviromental health at Trafford Council, they do not seem to have acted upon the complaint as yet.

As the house where the tuba player lives is part of terrrace, you can imagine how the sound travels.

It woudn't be so bad if he gave us a couple days off from it at weekends but he dosn't, even as I write letter all I can hear is a carcophony of noise.

And so, through your paper I would like to ask the tuba player, please give your neighbours a break and stop playing the damn thing, if you want to play, can you not go in one of the local fields?

I do respect the fact that in your own home you can do what you want, but surely not at everybody else's expense.

Why is this person set on making his neighbour’s life so damn miserable?

Your complaint should be with Trafford Council, not with the resident, who presumably you have not approached to ask to stop; since you do so here.

if were talking about nuiscance - how about these idiots who have bonfires or as they call them bbq's during the day or early evening. Stinking out the whole street with smoke. I hope they all get food poisoning.

in reply to matt sleights comment the writer of the letter sates that he is waiting to hear from the enviromental health, he does not say as to when it was first reported, so to say that the complaint should be with T.B.C is somewhat premature.
are you also aware mr sleight that some people are not approachable at all and in this instance that could actually be the case

Yes I am aware of that. Are you also aware that that is completely irrelevant to whether the complaint is directed in the correct place?

If the player will not stop when asked face to face, he will certainly not stop after reading a complaint about him on the messenger website.

He will also know the identity of the person complaining about him to the council, and so by sending this letter the poster has probably done far more harm than good.

mr sleight in reading the posters letter, what comes across to me is that he has given the offender fair warning that both he and his neighbours are not prepared to put up with the noise any longer and will use every means at his disposal to stop this anti-social behaviour, and if this includes using a service paid for by the tax payer then so be it, as for the poster doing more harm than good by revealing his identity i can't see it myself. if the poster had not wanted to reveal who he was i am sure he would have requested so when sending the post to the S.A.M therefore knowing exactly what he was doing, as for it not stopping the tuba player you may be right, but on the other hand it may also help other neighbours to carry forward their complaint safe in the knowledge that they are not alone.

There is someone like this is Blueberry Road Bowdon. There little darlings have a drum kit and sometimes when we visit a house on the street behind it sounds like a whole band practice. Apparantely the house next to it is up for sale as they have had enough and they have ruined their whole time living there. It is relentless. What a selfish family.

Actually, Hicky, this service is funded by advertisements in the SAM and on the website.

The letter does not state the tuba player has ever been asked to stop, so my advice to complain to the council instead of the Messenger is probably the most helpful as it's the only one that has any chance in resolving the issue.


Why are families who learn instruments selfish? I'm not sure I follow.

ah mr sleight, the reference to the service paid for by the tax payer was not a reference to the S. A. M but a reference to the enviromental health department at T.B.C. also the letter writer refers to him having informed the enviromental health dept. so ergo he has informed the council. i must agree with you i do not find families who learn musical instruments selfish, however i do feel that to learn an instrument in close proximity to your neighbours very selfish indeed, there are plenty of band practice rooms available for hire in the area i'm sure.

I happen to live near the person who has posted this complaint, and i have, and still am having to put up the monstrocity of sound that occurs on a day to day basis. His inability to play the instrument is some what worring after the 6-7 consistent hours per day,his repetertive scales still have duff notes and quite honestly i have had the urge to ramm it where the sun dont shine, after ive consitently blown it down his ear for a hour or 2. It is hell and its about time Trafford Council did something about it, i have personly contacted them numerous times, from times ranging from 9 o'clock AM, to 9 O'clock PM and nothing and i mean nothing has been done.So there for i am typing this in rage, i am glad it is not just me though
