There IS life in Timperley Brook

I have lived next to Beech fields area of Timperley Brook all my life and I regularly walk my dog near the brook and she goes in the water, as do many other dogs from the area and none of them seem to be getting ill.

I also recently took my niece 'fishing' there, with two plastic bottles stuck together. We caught five stickle backs and could see many more around us, the fish were later released back into the brook un-harmed.

I also see Kingfishers diving at the fish along the brook between Kersal Rugby Club and the Smiths field end, and quite recently, though I have no idea where it came from, I saw a pheasant in the brook and it seemed quite happy.

So I was wondering which particular part or area of Timperley Brook is so polluted that nothing survives there any more?

I will add however that twice in the past two years myself and other residents have noticed a milky white substance flowing along the length of the brook which was reported as a concern at the time to the waterways authority, though it does not seem to have harmed the wild life as we caught the fish only a week prior to your June 11 issue.

I will also agree that there are the occasional shopping trolleys and bikes dumped there, but though unsightly these are usually quickly removed during the regular maintainance visits that I observe along this area, and don’t in themselves have any affect on the wildlife.

I have memories of playing in Timperley Brook also as a child, but I felt that I should respond in support of the people that I regularly see maintaining this stretch of the Timperley Brook, Keep up the good work guys.

Despite living in the area all his life the writer is mistaken as the brook running past Beech Fields is Fairywell Brook not Timperley Brook. Timperley Brook runs from Well Green through Altrincham Golf Course and through Broadheath.
