Police headline made me laugh

I HAD to nearly stop myself laughing when I saw the cover of your April 24 edition.

Ready to swoop - Police take to the road to fight crime.

Wonderful to have all this new equipment, but I would not hold my breath because I am still waiting for a response from the police in relation to an incident that happened on December 1 last year.

In the early hours of that morning a car crashed into my wall causing thousands of pounds of damage (more than our insurance covered us for ). We were away but luckily our neighbour who was awake got a description of the car.

We also had the luck that half the front of the car was also left on my drive which was great evidence. We reported this to the police who said without anymore information they were unlikely to do anything.

As luck would have it this car appeared on a road near a friends and with the parts that were missing we tied it to the car that caused the damage, we therefore gave the police the registration number and asked them to investigate. We chased them up every week for the next six to eight weeks and no one returned our calls, we went back into the station and they still had not done a thing.

We then wrote to the police superintendent complaining and got a phone call back, unfortunately I was at work so I could not take it and when we tried to contact that officer were told he was not working and when we asked when he was back were told that that information couldn't be given out. Needless to say after trying for another four to six weeks that officer still has not called us back.

This is the first time I have ever asked the police to help and I know it is not a major crime but my experience is that even if you do their job for them don't expect them to bother. No wonder the criminals are laughing!
