Sad that football fans can no longer afford matches

I DRINK in a pub four miles from Old Trafford.

In 1990 which, yes, is a long time ago and yes times change, we could easily fill a 52 seater coach for United home and away games from our group of lads.

Now in 2008 we can't even fill a car. Family reasons and other commitments have seen lads drift away but the majority just can't afford to pay the prices.

The club have got to address these prices as sooner or later the bubble will burst and football will never recover because once you stop going you find other things to do or as most of my mates do, watch it in the pub.

It's a sad fact that if we get to the European Cup Final I will not go, one reason is the expense but the main reason is that all the lads will be at home watching it on telly where as in 1991 & 1999 we were all in Rotterdam & Barcelona.

Solution: next season watch real football at Moss Lane, Altrincham. It is friendly, intimate, close to the action, and considerable cheaper than any Premier League club.

Dean - gettign a coach four miles to home games is hardly cost effective is it?

No wonder you can't fill a 52 seater coach - you probably have to park 5 miles away

I'm with Nick on this one. Go and watch non-league football. If you had told me after 1999 that seven years on I would be watching non league Unibond football, I would have called for the yellow van! However, I have not been back to Old Trafford now for two years, not because of Malcolm Glazer but because of the rip off that top level sport has become. I have watched FC United for three seasons now, and win, lose or draw, it is a real football experience, the like of which you can get at Altrincham, Trafford, Flixton and so many more clubs where the atmosphere is fabulous and the football is a lot better than you would expect. More people are walking away from Premier League football than you think, and AFC Liverpool will form in next season's Vodkat League division 2. All good things come to an end, but when they do there is always something to fill the void.

I agree with the other Nick Smith. Premier league football is over priced and over rated.
My local team are Kingston in London and their football is amazing value as they are rubbish and only cost 10p to watch.
We need more football like this.
