I WOULD like to add my support to the ‘stop the open mic’ letter from an Unhappy Urmstonite.

You literally can’t go anywhere without bumping into these open 'mic’ers'.

Every pub on every night. Even one of their own went on the Messenger and agreed it’s far too much, in the comments section.

As well as the pubs they have now taken over like some new age protection racket, they’ve also wormed their way into the monthly Artisan Market. Is there no escape from their noise pollution? A once peaceful friendly market is now full of squealing and screeching.

I think the real reason they dominate the area, stopping bands from getting paid work, is because the majority of them simply aren’t good enough to receive payment to perform.

They aren’t vetted on talent therefore anyone can get up and perform. If it was a talent show I’m afraid the majority would be buzzed off!

Bands work hard and practise before performing live. Some of these individuals are just awful and insist on singing song after song.

The same singers singing the same songs night after night is just ridiculous. Please give us a rest. Instead of causing a bohemian atmosphere of collective artists, which I’ve been told by one of them they are!

They are instead becoming quite a laughing stock with tone death Elvis impersonators and an embarrassing wobbly voiced, forgetful, old lady acting like a teenage seductress. If it wasn’t so damn annoying it would be absolutely hilarious!

My suggestion is to find a venue like the Showcase Studios on Railway Road perhaps, and all of you go there. If we want to hear you we will come to you!
