FURTHER to the council’s protestations about maintaining sports and leisure facilities in Trafford, despite closing down a golf course in Flixton and planning to close the hugely popular George Carnall Leisure Centre.

I passed both George Carnall and the space-constrained Urmston Leisure Centre on consecutive days. George Carnall had 46 cars in the car park on the first day and 48 on the second.

Urmston, on the other hand, had nine empty car park places on the first day and ten on the second.

Therefore, please, could somebody tell me how the miniscule car park at Urmston is going to accommodate 40-odd new cars when people supposedly relocate their leisure activities?

The obvious answer is that people won’t be able to park so won’t be going. There are no bus services near to Urmston Leisure Centre so the people of Davyhulme are going to be left high and dry with both their favourite golf course gone and leisure centre gone.

The proposed upgrade of Urmston is a farce as there is no room anywhere for expansion and, sorry, a mere rewiring and a few internal cosmetic changes are not going to cut the mustard.
