FOLLOWING the recent letter published on 14 September (Annoyed over green bin fees), we would like to reassure residents that garden waste is only collected in the green recycling bin from households who have signed up to the paid service.

If a resident believes that someone’s green bin is being emptied in error, please call us on 03330 035865 and we will investigate.

With over 43,000 households signed up, we are committed to ensuring that we deliver the expected level of service.

Green bins can be used to recycle both food and garden waste; with households who have opted out of the paid for garden service still able to recycle all their food waste for free.

This mean that our crews continue to empty all the green bins every week; some containing only food waste and others containing a mix of food and garden waste. However, our collection crews are provided with a daily list of households who have signed up to the paid service.

This allows them to check for green bins which don’t have a garden waste sticker but may have signed up. Green bins without a sticker which aren’t on the list, are emptied if they contain only food waste.

Full details of the paid for garden waste service can be found at www.trafford.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

Anyone who is interested in recycling and wants to check what goes in each bin, can visit www.trafford.gov.uk/recycling or call us on 03330 035865.
