PHIL Jordan (Letters, Aug 31) makes a very valid point - if the state of the roads in Trafford is due to money, then why not increase the council tax?

The state of the roads in and around the centre of Altrincham, apart from Stamford New Road, our Council's great (?) achievement, are appalling.

I contacted 'Trafford Traffic' concerning the lack of dropped kerbs around Hale Road/Oxford Road, and received an e-mail in what could best be described as 'Councilspeak', implying that there was no prospect of anything being done in the near future.

Another problem for wheelchair users is trying to go down Brown Street or Byrom Street. On those streets, cars are given priority over pedestrians for use of the pavement.

If you are in a wheelchair,or pushing a pram, you have no option but to travel in the road.

A sensible solution would be to create diagonal parking slots all down one side of the road, leaving half the road for the one-way traffic.

That is all the available road that there is at present, due to cars being parked on both sides. But when has Trafford Council, or 'Trafford Traffic' ever looked for a sensible solution to ANY problem?
