IT would appear that Cooney is closing in on completion of Stamford New Road work. There were actually men working on a Sunday!

One might well ask why this had not happened much sooner.

The trees are losing their barriers, and the area outside Travel Lodge is being paved, probably only a year after it was dug up. No doubt special paving stones had to be made to order,to give the right artistic aspect to the road.

However, judging from a lead article in The Times,it might have all been in vain.

Councils will be encouraged to remove speed bumps, in order to cut down on emissions, and to programme traffic lights to encourage a flow of traffic.

What Trafford Council has done is to impede the steady flow of traffic. Councils will also be encouraged to reassess the routes through places, also to help a steady flow.

If this has to take effect, perhaps we will now see the artistic achievement of Stamford New Road all dug up to provide what should have been done originally, which is to provide a smooth, wide surface to encourage a fast throughput of traffic.

All we have at present is a bumpy road that the Victorians would recognise, and a silly obelisk.
