THE council say that William Wroe Golf Course is not viable; this is hardly surprising as they have run it down.

I have been a member for some years.

Four out of the 18 holes have not been in full use for months, which is hardly likely to attract customers.

One is a bunker that had been ground under repair for about nine months, another similar for over six months, and two holes on temporary tees or greens for months.

There have been no course wardens on a Monday or Friday for at least three years so people would play without playing, it didn't cost anything for course wardens, as they weren't paid, they just got free golf, so why didn't they have any like they used to?

Acregate Club, which was on the site and brought in quite a bit of business, was effectively shut down and a lot of the members transferred to other clubs who welcomed them.

There was also no promotion of the course, except on the website.

By the closure, a lot of the older members will not go to Altrincham as the course is too long, this will mean they lose their exercise, leading to worse health and more cost to the council.
