I, and many people that I have spoken to, are appalled at the length of time, and the disruption caused, by the so-called improvement of the main street in Altrincham.

Why is is that neither the council, Altrincham Forward or Altrincham Chamber of Commerce, seem at all bothered by the fact that it is taking well over a year to complete a project which, with a lot more effort, should have been completed within a couple of weeks?

We are talking about the re-laying of about 100 metres of road and pavement, not the construction of a motorway.

I would have thought that Victorian engineers would have completed this work, with no heavy machinery, in a short period of time.

Whoever is responsible for this rather pointless project should realise that they have done no service at all to the town, just brought about the closure of a number of businesses, and created numerous empty shops.

While all this pointless work has been going on, there are still many roads with large potholes, and pedestrian pavements which are a disgrace.

Perhaps this is in line with the council's effort to create a Third World environment in Altrincham, in the hope of getting some Government funding, which could then be wasted on yet another futile project.
