NO doubt Martin Wright would be surprised to learn that I agree with much of what he says.

However,I am not 'broadcasting the myth' that Muslim countries do not help. What I said was that the oil-rich countries, like Iran and Saudi Arabia, could do much more in terms of financial help, and taking refugees than they do.

If Martin cared to look at an old-fashioned item, called an atlas, he would see than neither Iran, nor Saudi Arabia, are more than about 150 miles, at closest proximity, from Syria or Iraq.

These countries also are vast in area (1.5 million sq. miles) and have a combined population less than that of the UK.

It is a fact that much of the problem in the Middle East has been caused by trying to remove what the West regard as undemocratic regimes.

We should have left well enough alone: there has been a greater loss of life than ever there was under Hussein and Assad. But,as Omar Khayyam said:- "The moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on, Nor all thy piety nor wit shall serve to cancel half a line, Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it."

The problem with trying to put the world to rights, is having to pick up the pieces afterwards.
