IT was deeply depressing to read the anonymous letter ('Don't let 'em all come here') published in response to Elizabeth Andrew's original letter.
The thrust of the letter seemed to be that there are many issues in the UK - which is undeniably true but does that really mean we can't or won't help others in desperate situations.
These are children who need a safe place and a chance in life. We are the fifth (depending on when you measure it & what exchange rate) biggest economy in the world and we choose not to help 3,000 children who are in desperate need of help - an idea that you describe that as nonsense?
There is evidence that immigration benefits the economy so it would actually benefit us not cost us in the medium term but even if it didn't, turning our back on these children diminishes us as a society and damages our reputation in the world.
For a country that at its best can be inclusive and open this is a sad and damning decision.
