IS the Flixton Greater Manchester Spatial Framework plan actually viable?
Many residents have raised concerns with me. They have included anxiety about the flood plain, pollution, road congestion, green belt status, impact on local schools and healthcare provision.
However a key component of the draft consultation is 'securing enhancement to rail service and station infrastructure'.
Fundamentally, the Flixton Station proposal runs into difficulty at that point. The Metrolink remains a distance away despite the welcomed planned extension to the Trafford Centre.
Furthermore we are currently served by an hourly weekday train service and no service on Sundays.
The investment and support required for a further 750 homes from Network Rail and/or TfGM needed to achieve the suggested enhancement appears unrealistic.
Cllr Paul Lally, Conservative Member for Flixton, Trafford Council
