I was appalled to read your recent report that Manchester Airport is expanding to include extra flights to Singapore and Huston when it can barely handle the traffic it already has.
On four occasions this year, I have flown to Spain from Manchester using both T1 and T2 terminals. Each time, the security experience has been terrible, with queues stretching round and round in cattle pens and lasting over an hour.
The problem has been that less than half the scanning machines have been manned and in operation at any one time.
Because of the delays, shop owners at the airport must be losing out at there is no time to browse before dashing to the departure gates.
At different Spanish airports the experience was completely the opposite, taking ten minutes or less because all their scanners were in operation.
Is Manchester the worst airport in Europe and if so, are there any plans to address this situation?
