I WRITE regarding the council's 2017/18 budget. Does anyone else think the proposal about the green bins is utter nonsense, totally impractical and unrealistic?

I also have to wonder how much they paid a consultant to come up with these hare brained plans. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the food and garden waste went to be composted - together, so why the saving in doing only the food waste?

Presumably they're paid for the compost? They are still going to have to pay to collect my green bin each week for the food waste, often only one bag, sometimes none, surely it makes sense for my lawn cuttings to accompany this food waste in the composting? But there are more practical problems with this master plan. How will the bin men know who has paid? They aren't great at collecting the bins at the moment, having to decide whose to collect won't improve that, but it will increase the admin burden and complaints (people will complain more when they're paying!).

Also, how do paying customers prevent their bin being filled by their non-paying neighbours? How does it work for people who don't have gardens but end up with 'garden waste' due to neighbours' trees etc.

What do they think will happen to the garden waste from the non paying people, potentially elderly people who don't drive?

What will be the impact on flytippimg - which they will have to pay to resolve?

Finally, I wonder whether, when labour councillors support their residents on these issues, they will be written off by Mr. Anstee as moaning and negative again....
