We have lived in our present house for 30 years and the street lighting outside our home has been perfectly adequate in giving us sufficient lighting to go outside during the dark nights. Not anymore.

The replacement LED street light is not fit for purpose and is totally unacceptable. We are now left literally in the dark and I dread to think what will happen in the dark winter nights.

I emailed Sean Anstee re the total darkness now surrounding our property to which he replied: “I am afraid the council only has an obligation to provide lighting for the highway network and not individual properties although I accept in the past this may have been a co-incidental advantage to you.”

So now this new LED lighting begins and ends at the kerb side. Sean Anstee also replied that ‘the new LED street lighting is providing a modern solution that meets the obligations of the authority’.

Surely if these LEDs are so superior to the old lights why is the area of light so very limited?

Also Sean Anstee emailed to say that ‘Greater Manchester Police are generally supporting LED lighting as they are more clear in accurately reflecting colours and enhancing CCTV images’.

Well that's comforting to know as the police are going to be very busy soon with undesirables lurking in the dark.
