It appears your reader David Olliver (Letters, Yet another road to ruin, June 23) has been walking around Altrincham wearing a blindfold.

He lists road repairs, infrastructure improvements and modernisation in terms of complete negativity and even falls back on the old chestnut of a few potholes to fuel his vitriol.

Hasn’t he noticed the brilliant transformation of Goose Green, the magnificent tree lined Parisian-style pedestrian thoroughfare that Shaws Road has become, the wonderful new transport hub, the new shops and restaurants opening, the sparkling new hospital or the utterly sensational rebirth of the market area?

Atrincham is being transformed from a downtrodden Victorian relic to a vital, thriving, hugely-popular footfall magnet, visited by literally thousands of new customers. Yet he says, sarcastically, of the council: “What a great job we are doing for Altrincham”.

They aren’t doing a great job. They’re doing a magnificent job of revitalising the town. Mr Olliver should open his eyes or keep his moaning negativity to himself.
