AFTER the news that Labour Council member John Smith has joined the Conservative group following disciplinary action taken by Labour, I am hoping that the date for a by-election will soon follow.
Residents in Bucklow St Martins ward must feel betrayed after their mandate was disregarded.
It is fair to say that the Conservatives were unpopular in the ward given the recent results so it only stands to reason that a by-election is called, giving voters the chance to determine whether or not Cllr Smith should continue as their representative.
Council members should not be allowed to cast aside the wishes of residents to serve themselves, making a mockery of local democracy.
