With reference to recent letters about Timperley Library and the car parking situation in the village, I think that what is called for now is pragmatism rather than idealism.

We would all like a spacious library and unlimited car parking space, but in the current economic climate that is simply not going to happen.

Timperley Civic Society has been involved with discussions about Timperley Library since the first public consultation meetings in January 2015.

It became very clear that the options were limited because of the need for Trafford Council to make budget cuts.

We face losing Timperley Library completely, with no alternative. The current proposals for a new building with joint medical practice and library, and flats to be built on part of the Baker Street car park, are a way of retaining a library in Timperley. As Trafford Council has stated in reply to questions, there is no alternative ‘Plan B’.

I do have sympathy with the parking problems of carers visiting Orchard Court as expressed in a recent letter to the Messenger. Perhaps spaces could be freed up by limiting parking at the new library/medical centre car park to two or three hours.
