FORTY-three years ago, the U.K. joined a cosy six member European Economic Community for trade which 20 years later morphed into EU, a political monster, triggering calls for a referendum, refused until now.

After 23years (hindsight), the go ahead by a Yes Prime Minister is both bizarre and momentous.

Today the European Union is a morass of 28 disparate sovereign states of which 19 are bogged down

in the Eurozone centre with Britain among the peripheral nine well placed for escape.

Only clairvoyants predict the result of this ballot but rhetoric suggests optimists will vote No and pessimists will vote Yes in the EU referendum on June 23.
